THE ATHLETE/THE COACH

Dave grew up with a love of sport, especially basketball. He played in high school and college, setting a college single-season scoring record.

After his playing career was over, he became a teacher and high school basketball coach.

"I played basketball from the time I was a little kid. I'd go outside and practice during the winter when it was 10 degrees below zero. I still love the game."

Basketball runs in his family. Dave, along with his son, Matt and his brother, Bob, all were basketball coaches, and his stepdaughter, Courtney, played Division 1 basketball.

"I love to study the game. My college coach, Mack Nettleton, taught me to pay attention to the details of the game."

"I take this approach with my clients. there is more to wealth and retirement success than the 'status quo' of investing advice everyone follows. There really are strategies and little known secrets that can help you have an incredibly successful and crystal clear retirement."

THE MISSION

I help my clients create an income and Spend It All!

Dave loved coaching basketball, but he had always felt the call to be his own man, to build his own future as an entrepreneur. So Dave took his love for teaching and coaching into the business world where he helps his clients win in their retirement years.

"I love providing a crystal clear picture for my clients where they know how much money they will have coming in every month for the rest of their lives!"

"It’s fun to help my clients create one bucket of money that produces a paycheck every month no matter how long they live. They can now SPEND IT ALL! and never worry about what's coming next month, because there will be another check right there for you next month, and the next, and the next. "

When we design and implement a "Spend It All" plan for my clients, the relief, the peace of mind, the happiness they experience is amazing.

"Once someone knows with certainty they can have a successful retirement, their lives are changed forever."

My Reason Why

Heritage

Dave grew up on a farm where the values of hard work and honesty were ingrained from his earliest years. His great grandfather homesteaded in Minnesota from Sweden and then his grandfather, and father took over the farm. That Central Minnesota farm was then passed on to his oldest brother and his nephew, extending the family farm legacy over 5 generations.

"We worked hard. Our whole family did, and it was great to be out there working together as a family, working as a team. My dad taught me to work and keep working until I got the job done. To this day, I love the satisfaction of looking at a job well done."

Farming can often be challenging. His father was often stressed trying to make ends meet in the farming business. "We had no control over crop prices, cattle prices or the weather. There were many stressful times for his dad, which likely contributed to an early heart attack at age 57.

"My mother had 5 boys and after Dad passed, it was inspiring to see her handle that. She never complained. Her faith helped her through and after she passed at age 80, we found ream after ream of spiral notebooks with written prayers for her kids and grandkids. She was a vibrant Christian, and I learned a lot about faith from her."

Farming was foundational for Dave when it comes to values. "We learned to work hard, but not just that. It instilled in me 5 core values that I have used for the past 4 decades to guide how I live my life. I reference these several times per week to keep me centered on what is important:

Creativity – Diligence – Integrity – Generosity – Kindness

If I ever feel myself drifting or off track, these 5 values will bring me back to focus on what is truly important in my life."

Family

Dave has had a unique family dynamic, starting with his marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dianne, between his junior and senior YEARS of college.

After several miscarriages, they chose to build their family through adoption. “We were blessed with three children: Angie, Susan, and Matthew.”

“We adopted Angie when she was three months old where her birth mother was a 14-year- old Native American girl. Susan and Matt were born in Korea and both were abandoned, living in orphanages prior to our adopting them. Susan arrived at age three and a half and a few years later Matt arrived at age six months. Matt had child mononucleosis and at 6 months old, the doctor told us that he was dying. We prayed and had faith he would recover, and he did.”

Dianne struggled with multiple health issues for many years. Eventually, she lost her life to cancer. “I had to juggle being a dad, husband, caring for my wife and running a business. But you do what you have to do, right? We tried to focus on our blessings and not the struggles. Dianne, even though enduring much pain would look for ways to bring hope and encouragement to others.”

After Dianne’s death, Dave met Lynda from Colorado Springs, Colorado. After a long-distance relationship, they married in 1999 and Dave moved from Minnesota to Colorado. Lynda, a single parent for 15 years, was the founding editor of Single Parent Family Magazine at Focus on the Family. She has written many books and has been a speaker at events on several continents.

“Our marriage brought a whole new family adventure as Lynda had 3 teenage children. How do you learn to 'step-father' well? I didn't know, but being a lifelong learner, I invested time and effort to become the best father and stepfather I could BE. So Lynda and I navigated unknown waters together, made mistakes for sure, but kept our marriage strong and growing.”

Giving Back

Dave's Christian faith inspires him to give back. He and his wife financially support several different missions in all corners of the world.

For many years, Dave was Chairman of the Board of Colorado Springs Christian Schools (CSCS) in Colorado Springs. "A FAITH-BASED education is important to us. We want to help make sure families can participate in how their children are educated and the lifetime values that are instilled in young men and women.

Dave believes in the parable of the good Samaritan where the most rewarding charity is simply helping people in need, whether it be friends, family or neighbors.

"Lynda and I try to be aware of opportunities to serve our fellow man and step in and help where we can. We have learned the importance of being there for others and being committed to walk with others through difficult times."

Speaking

For over thirty-five years, Dave has been a featured speaker on the topics of finance and leadership. He has spoken at National Conferences around the country, including the WORLD-FAMOUS Broadmoor Hotel.
